Group Visits & Guided Tour Offerings
We are committed to community outreach, and inviting schoolchildren to our museum for an introduction to their own local history is our favorite place to start!
- Programs for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
- Highlights of Northport’s rich history through our 2023/24 exhibit, A Sense of Place.
- An educational and fun historic information hunt, a fill-in-the-blank activity that fosters movement and engagement throughout our gallery.
- A large-scale diorama which depicts the early days of Main Street's historic buildings.
- A historic postcard activity, where attendees are asked to write to a friend explaining what was most memorable about our Museum. We take care of the postage, attendees just need to come with the address.
Is there a fee to visit the Museum?
- We have a suggested donation policy of $10 per visitor though those with financial hardships will not be turned away.
Museum Field Trips
We offer field trips designed to work in concert with the Northport/East Northport curriculum and its focus on community.
Grades K - 3
- Then and Now: Students will learn how our community changed from a rural to a suburban one as they compare "then" with "now".
- Where In The World Are We?: Students will learn about relative geography and how geography influences settlement.
- Tools Over Time: Students will learn how technology changed over time.
- Unity in the Community & Rules and Laws: Students learn how our community worked & still works to solve problems and keep people safe.
- How Wants, Needs, Goods, Services, Change Over Time: Students learn about basic wants, needs, goods & services and how Northport's economy shaped & still shapes our area.
Grades 4 - 8
- The Three Worlds: Students learn how Native Americans, Europeans and Africans settled Northport.
- It's Our Revolution!: Students learn about the Revolutionary War as it impacted our residents. They will learn about local heroes and spies!
- Who's In Charge Here?: Students learn about local government.
- Immigrants Shape Our Community: Students learn about Northport & East Northport's rich immigrant contribution.
- How WW1 & WW2 Reshaped the World: Students learn about the impact of the wars to end all wars.
High School
- The Fashion of the Times: Students explore & compare the fashions from the past to the present.
- Sketching the Past: Students will access historic artifacts as subjects for a charcoal sketch.
- Engaging in Social Debate: Students research social movements (child labor, prohibition, women's suffrage), pick a side & engage in a live debate.
Field Trip Cost: $10 per Student + 2 Adults free
Museum in a Box
Can't travel to the Museum? No problem, borrow a Museum in a Box!
Each box contains artifacts and/or documents to add to your in-school lesson.
Example: Who Are the Matinecock Native Americans? Box

Museum in a Box is FREE of charge!
Full/Half Day Programs

Cost: $300 - Half school day program | $500 - Full school day program

Reservations are required for groups. Please allow at least two weeks notice when planning your trip to the Museum.
